Week 4- Waiting for I171H

I am going post a weekly update on the wait- this week I am sad to say there is still no sign of the 171, not that I was expecting it yet. I do find myself getting anxious though waiting on the mailman because you never know. I do think we have a bit of a wait ahead still, especially with the coming holiday’s.
I have a theory about the Memphis USCIS. I have seen a large difference in time for people receiving their paperwork. People either get their paperwork in 6-7 weeks or 12+ weeks, not really anyone in between. One person called and was told that their paperwork was sitting on someone’s desk because they had moved, after 12 weeks!! I have seen several references that Memphis only has 1 officer doing the 171’s. I think what happens (and again, this is only my theory) is that if all your paperwork is in order and there are NO questions then an assistant to the officer approves your paperwork and you time is relatively short. If there is any question or anything that would need an officer to approve your application, then it goes to the officer. This lady is probably very far behind due to being short staffed and that is when you end up with the longer wait and you probably go into a new stack (and a new wait) when her assitant see’s that it needs more approval.
I am 99% sure our paperwork will need to go to the officer for approval so I guess we are in for the long haul.

Ahhh Michael, Please give “Officer” Deshawanna Williams our regards. If she didn’t take the ~16 +/- weeks to process our 171-H we wouldn’t be rocking our Elizabeth to sleep. Reason #2 for warm and fuzzy feelings about Deshawanna and the fact our 171 took 16 +/- weeks…We would have traveled in the HEAT of the Summer! Reason #3…I’m still thinking……call us next year and perhaps I’ll come up w/ something by then
Did I mention our 171 took 16 +/- weeks? I just know yours wont take that long because they promised that they were hiring new people to help “Officer” Deshawanna Williams and it would take a year to ‘train’ them. … It’s been a year.
Following your saga…
Love, Susan.
