Our dog, Buddy, is mad at me- very mad at me. He seems to be getting over it but the other night he let out a yelp when I touched his back foot. I looked and one of his nails was just hanging there- with the skin underneath raw and exposed!!! This happened to him before and I took him to the vet, they proceeded to pull it off. Well, since it was 8pm I figured I would not make him wait until the next day and pull it off myself.
So I grabbed the bright flashlight and pair of pliers, had Starla hold him and proceeded to yank on it. It came half way off but not all the way- oh no!! Well, at this point I was commited to pull it off and held him again and yanked- off it came- and away from me (as far away from me as possible) went Buddy.
I felt so bad for him, I tried to give him meat snacks and he would poke his head around the corner and let me throw them to him but would not come anywhere near me. I know he was uncomfortable and then the one he trusted, instead of comforting him, hurt him. It was for the best, but I still feel bad. I just hope it doesn’t become infected- I started him on some antibiotics from last time he did this just to be safe.
