Happy New Year - 4703!!!!

Today begins the New Year, the Year of the Dog, the year 4703. This is time for huge celebrations in China, in fact many parts of the country almost come to a stop for 2 weeks to celebrate the New Year (but CCAA will only be closed this week!). The New Year celebration is a time for rememberance of the past and hope for the future, a time for family to get together. Famlies have a traditional family dinner on New Years and they even set a table space for those family members who cannot be with them- a way to honor those that may be in other parts of the country or the world, again emphasizing the value of family.
Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia about the “Year of the Dog”:
Like his animal namesake, he is Loyal with a capital “L”. He is the one who people are most likely to turn to when they need help. The dog person will come through every time. That is because he/she is sensitive to others and empathizes with them, particularly if someone has suffered an injustice; he/she reacts quickly with the same feeling as though he/she had been personally offended. Friends know that they can rely upon their Dog friend to keep a promise or remain cool in a crisis… (wiki article here)
We went to a Chinese New Year celebration with the Our China Angels group in Bristol. It was neat and of course a joy to again getting to see all the adorable little kids (especially the precious Elizabeth and Jada) . There was dinner (yes, all you can eat, and of course I ate all that I could eat) with traditional Chinese music playing, a very nice slide show and a little presentation at the end for waiting families in which they gave us a little rose and bookmarker. Very nice.
Again- Happy New Year, I hope our daughter does come home before the year 4704!
