New website for the guys

Recently a new yahoo group was created just for the fathers adopting from China. All so often we find the area of adoption to be dominated by women, which is fine but leaves the few guys out there that are wanting to be actively involved feeling very much like a minority. I have even subscribed to some parenting magazines recently, and they are geared towards the women- here’s a news flash for them- HELLO, SOME OF US MEN DO CARE AND WANT TO BE GOOD PARENTS TOO!!!!! I guess it really just irks me to buy a parenting magazine and one of the articles have to do with “How to spice up your life with your man”, if I wanted to read that or my wife wanted to read that we could buy Cosmo, a woman’s magazine. If they had made the article more mutual I would not have been so bothered, and both the major parenting magazines are like that. I am sure most of their readers are woman, but not all… I don’t know, maybe I am odd or an extreme minority to be the one buying these magazines, but I am willing to take that stigma to be a better parent.

Anyway, sorry about the soapbox rant, here is the link for YOU DAD’S who have, or will be, adopting from China- lady’s please let your husbands know- http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Dads4China/

Michael, it is such an amazing sight to watch the men I have met that have opened their hearts to adoption. The one thing they all seem to have in common is a tender gentle spirit and would rather sit with a bunch of children from across the world on a Monday night with their wife at an Our China Angels meeting than watch Mon. Night Football. –That’s a real man! You are included in that picture! You and Starla will be fantastic parents.

That seems to be so true, its just that I have been thinking that men have changed and the old “stereotypes” and “stigmas” against men not caring or wanting to be involved parents, no longer applied. I thought us guys were learning to become better parents. I don’t know where I got this idea, maybe it is because of my own beliefs and wishes.
It really doesn’t matter what others think, but it would be nice to “feel” that the world is behind dads a little bit more.

Hi Michael, I haven’t subscribed yet but “Adoptive Families” magazine seems to be less gender-biased and a little more informative. Based on what I’ve looked at on their website anyway!

My brother is a stay at home dad and there’s hardly any resources for him either! :)

I have read that magazine once while sitting in Barnes and Noble- it seems rather expensive when you can get the regular parenting magazines for about $1 an issue. I will reconsider it again though.
    Thank you.
