News from CCAI

Since we are just over 6 months into our wait I decided today was a good day to call CCAI and ask a few questions. The message was quick and to the point- they do not expect the wait to pick up anytime soon and still anticipate slowing down a little bit more. They said to expect a 16+ month wait from LID to referral. This could go up to 18 months or beyond but they are not prepared to support that statement yet.
She also mentioned that China is still sending about the same number of referrals per month (500-1000) as this time last year- they are remaining consistant. This is actually good news that they have not slowed down. The amount of dossiers grew quickly around June last year and continued growing, double or triple what was normally seen. China is not prepared (possibly due to cultural issues) to meet that demand per month. They are referring roughly 10,000 children a year and to meet the current dossier demand that would be 20,000-30,000. When asked if the CCAA move to a large building with more people would speed up referrals and was told flatly “I don’t think so”.
So we are left with mixed emotions from the conversation- a) the amount of referrals are continuing at the same rate and b) the wait will be about another 10-12 months. At least now we have an idea of how long we are actually looking at.
