Here we go again

In this ride of adoption, you come across things that make you just say "huh, that doesn’t make sense". One of those things is the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service determining that the approval that we would make good parents is only valid for 18 months and our fingerprints are only valid for 15 months. So, here we are redoing part of our paperwork to satisfy our governments bureaucratic red tape. Oh and did I mention the $$$ that is involved with redoing this? Let’s just say it is in excess of $1000. I think the whole thing is ridiculous, but we will do what ever we have to do to get our daughter home.
So what does all this involve? Basically we have to reapply (not do an update, that would make too much sense) to the USCIS for approval again. This involves our paperwork and full fee being sent to Memphis, we have to have our fingerprints taken again (that is a 600 mile round trip drive to the nearest USCIS location), we have to have another home study where a social worker comes and checks on us and then sends a paper to USCIS saying "yup, no change since last time", then we wait for approval again. Oh and did I mention the $$$? Gotta love the government.
You know, I really do appreciate though that they are trying to make sure that these children find good homes. I don’t agree with this step of it, but I can appreciate the idea behind it. This process has really made me think about all the children out there born to families that don’t care about them or abuse them. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if all parents had to be "licensed" or approved to have children first- you know background checks, fingerprints, home studies? I really think there would be a dramatic decrease in abuse and people would appreciate their children more.
