The winter storms of 2008

The end of January and beginning of February of 2008 brought horrible storms to south central China. These were the worst storms in 100 years and it was really a tragic situation for those areas. I blogged on Feb 3, 2008:
“Also on my mind today, I can’t help but wonder how this weather is affecting our little daughter as she waits to come home. Is she in an affected area of the country? Is she sick and cold or fortunate to be safe and warm? I can only hope that God is looking over her and keeping her safe as I pray for every day. I wish she could be home safe home with us right now.”
I couldn’t know at that time that our daughter was 10 months old and was being directly affected by this storm. She was in one of the hardest hit orphanages. They were without power for over a week, they had no heat except a charcoal heater that they could not use to heat the infant rooms . These babies were under many layers of blankets for a solid week, they couldn’t get them out of the cribs because they did not have snow suits to put them in, so there they laid for a week. The little older children could play in the play room but were still cold and bundled in snow suits all the time.
Half the Sky sent a truck of supplies to the orphange. It really moved me to read about their journey, especially once they got to the orphanage. You can read about it here. And we think we might have seen a picture of Mikayla. We are going to print it and take it to China with us and ask the orphanage workers if they think that it is her. What hardship these children went through in their young ages.

We too worried about the winter storm as we had only had Kenli home a few months( from Chenzhou) when the snow hit. We followed any news desperately and called out to all our friends for prayer as we knew the ones suffering were “the ones we left behind”. Many of our family members joined us in donating to half the sky’s storm relief efforts. It is amazing how these little ones touch your hearts and change your life forever! Can’t wait til your home with your little one! Amy

You have to be talking about the baby that is being held by the older nanny. I think that is MiKayla. I read that post several times right after the storm. I was so worried about the kids. Im so glad one of those babies will live in our area! Come on TA!!!!

That is one that we think could be her too, the other one is the one on the mat where the babies are, maybe the one in pink. We were able to send the pictures to the CWI to ask if either one is her.
